GKS 2.0: Soon mandatory for your sector as well?

GKS 2.0 and FDM 2.0 make fiscal control more efficient and simplify administration in sectors sensitive to fraud. Discover what’s changing for you.

Belgium is on the verge of a major shift with the introduction of the new generation of certified cash registers, known as GKS 2.0. This modernization not only improves the efficiency of fiscal control but also simplifies administrative processes across fraud-sensitive sectors.

With GKS 2.0, data is automatically transmitted to the tax authorities in real time. The system also guarantees faster operation and greater reliability, regardless of internet connection quality.

A key component of the renewed system is the Fiscal Data Module 2.0 (FDM 2.0), also known as the “black box.” The current system is being completely overhauled to meet the latest government requirements. The new cloud-based FDM 2.0 now records all transactions in real time, making administration simpler and more efficient.

Will you soon have to make the switch?

According to the current government agreement, the obligation applies to all sectors sensitive to undeclared work and fraud. The exact details still need to be finalized.

However, due to the high number of daily transactions, cash payments, and a strong reliance on flexible or temporary staff, we expect the following sectors will also fall under the new regulations:

  • Hairdressers and beauty salons
  • Takeaway shops, fry shops, and sandwich bars
  • Food stores and night shops
  • Small retail businesses, such as clothing, tobacco, or electronics shops

The benefits for your business

Despite the (potentially) mandatory investment, switching to GKS 2.0 and FDM 2.0 fortunately brings several advantages:

  • GKS premium: Does your business already have a certified cash register system? Then you can apply for a premium that reduces your social contributions. The premium goes up to €500 per quarter (€800 for employees under 26).
  •  Investment deduction: You benefit from a 120% investment deduction on purchases of a new FDM cash system.
  •  Simplified administration: Thanks to the new regulations, certain administrative obligations are simplified or even automated. This saves your business both time and money!
  •  Time savings: Since on-site inspections by the tax authorities are no longer required, you gain time to focus on running your business.
  •  No obligation to keep a receipt log: Anyone using an FDM system no longer needs to maintain a separate receipt log.
