Loyalty points on the kiosk

Your customer opens the barcode in the app and holds it under the scanner at the bottom right of the kiosk screen: the kiosk recognises them straight away.

If you work with loyalty, Unipage's loyalty points system, your customer also earns points on the kiosk with every order and redeems them there for a reward. The kiosk recognises your customer by the barcode in the app: they hold their phone under the scanner, the kiosk says "Hoi Sabatino!" and after the order the points land on their loyalty card automatically. No cashier is involved.

How it works#

  • Your customer signs in on the kiosk with their loyalty card: by scanning the barcode, typing the code or signing in with their phone.

  • While ordering, they see their points balance, how many points this order is worth and which rewards are waiting.

  • They redeem a reward themselves before paying. The kiosk never applies one automatically.

  • After payment, the points are added to their balance automatically, using the tiers from your loyalty settings.

  • Anyone who does not sign in simply orders as usual, but earns nothing.

Setting up the loyalty programme#

You set up the loyalty programme on the management page of your kiosk, under Configuration in Settings, Loyalty. There you choose a points card or a stamp card, how many points are earned per tier, which products earn points, whether points are earned when a reward is redeemed, and which rewards there are. It works exactly as it does for the webshop; every field is explained in Loyalty.

Good to know

Each business has its own loyalty programme: your webshop settings do not automatically apply to your kiosk. So set up the programme on the kiosk's management page as well. Your customer's points balance is shared, though: with the same account they see the same points on the kiosk as in the app and on the webshop.

Once a loyalty programme is in place, the kiosk shows the loyalty card on its own on the welcome screen, the menu and the overview. You do not need to switch anything on at the kiosk.

Where your customer finds their loyalty card#

Your customer always has their loyalty card with them in your business's mobile app. Under Loyalty they find their personal loyalty card, with their points balance, a barcode and their code (ID) below it. Tapping the barcode shows it full screen, ready to be scanned.

No app? Then they sign in on the kiosk with their phone through a QR code, see below.

Signing in on the kiosk#

Your customer has three ways to do this, from fastest to fallback.

1. Scanning the barcode#

The kiosk has a built-in barcode scanner at the bottom right of the screen. Your customer holds the barcode from the app under it, on the welcome screen, in the menu, in search and in the overview, even while a window is open. On the welcome screen the kiosk points out the spot with "Scan je kaart hier".

Once the card is recognised, the kiosk greets your customer with "Hoi [name]!", their available points and the next reward. If they scan later while ordering, a short "Hoi [name]! · [number] punten" message appears.

Tip

Scanner not reading the code straight away? Ask your customer to tap the barcode in the app so it shows full screen, and to turn up their screen brightness for a moment.

2. Typing the code#

When your customer taps Heb je een spaarkaart? (Do you have a loyalty card?), the window for typing the code opens. The start `UPGL-` is already filled in; they only type what comes after it, the code shown under the barcode in the app (for example 46YD7Z), and tap Bevestigen (Confirm).

3. Signing in with their phone#

In the same window your customer taps Liever aanmelden met je telefoon? (Rather sign in with your phone?). The kiosk shows a QR code. Your customer scans it with their smartphone, and your webshop opens on their phone. They log in or create an account and confirm the kiosk sign-in. A few seconds later they are signed in on the kiosk. That way a new customer without the app can start earning straight away too.

The QR code stays valid for ten minutes and is then renewed automatically.

Points and rewards while ordering#

Once your customer is signed in, they see their name and balance at the bottom of the menu, how many points this order earns and how many rewards are available (or how many points they still need). If they are not signed in, the kiosk shows how many points the order is worth there, as a nudge to scan their card. The overview shows the same information again.

Rewards are redeemed in the Wissel je punten in (Redeem your points) window. Your customer opens it by tapping their name and balance: on the welcome screen, at the bottom of the menu or in the overview. After signing in with the code or their phone it opens on its own. It lists all your rewards:

  • Rewards they have enough points for can be tapped.

  • The others show how many points are still needed.

  • A reward on certain products can only be chosen if such a product is in their order.

One reward per order applies, and a discount code and a reward cannot be combined. With Verwijder beloning (Remove reward) they undo a chosen reward; the points then stay on their balance. Points are only actually deducted once the order is paid.

After the order#

On the thank-you screen your customer immediately sees how many points they earned, their new balance and how many points they need for the next reward. If they redeemed a reward, it is shown as well. The order is in their name.

For the next customer the kiosk starts afresh: after the countdown on the thank-you screen, after the "Is daar nog iemand?" inactivity window, or when an order is cancelled, the kiosk signs the customer out automatically. So the next customer never earns on the previous customer's account. A customer who made a mistake taps Niet jij? Uitloggen (Not you? Sign out).

If signing in does not work#

  • Kaart niet herkend (card not recognised): the kiosk cannot find a customer with that code, for example because it is another business's loyalty card. Your customer can scan again, type the code or tap Verder zonder spaarkaart (Continue without a loyalty card).

  • Even geen verbinding (no connection right now): the kiosk could not check the loyalty card with the cloud. Ask your customer to try again in a moment.

  • On the phone, the QR code is no longer valid: the QR code is older than ten minutes or has already been used. Your customer taps Liever aanmelden met je telefoon? on the kiosk again and scans the new code.

  • If it really does not work, your customer just carries on ordering without a loyalty card. You can add points manually afterwards in the customer record via Customers.
